The 59th International session of the Model European Parliament was held in the breathtaking Nordic capital of Estonia - Tallinn. In April 2024, it marked the 30th jubilee of the programme.

The Bulgarian delegation
Bulgaria’s participation was marked by a bright delegation of 6 students from First English Language School in Sofia and the 91st German Language School “Prof. Konstantin Galabov” - Ms. Emma Ananieva, Ms. Sofia Valkova, Mr. Stanimir Stoyanov, Mr. Mladen Bogomirov, Mr. Marko Semov, as well as the Bulgarian Committee President of the Committee on Culture and Education - Ms. Beloslava Tencheva. The delegation definitely made an impactful impression right from the start of the session. The delegates not only actively participated throughout the whole process of writing the resolutions, but were also among the most active countries in the Plenary Session of the confernce, and also proudly won the title of “the biggest rule breakers”.
Our amazing delegates aside, the session was one of once-in-a-lifetime experiences and memorable moments. Here are some of the highlights of that week:
Opening ceremony
The ceremony was held at the beautiful Russian Theatre of Tallinn. The delegates were greated by the Prime Minister of Estonia, H.E. Ms. Kaja Kallas, the Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Margus Tsahkna, the Estonian Member of the European Parliament Ms. Marina Kaljurand, and the MEP Europe Board President, Mr. Gottfried Oehl.
The next two days were marked by teamwork and discussions during the committee meetings regarding topics ranging from solving teacher shortages, EU-China relations, and cybersecurity risks to online harassment and accessible voting.
The session also introduced the innovative idea of having masterclasses during those two days. With the help of various experts in each field, delegates gained knowledge about e-governance, political campaigning, cybersecurity, and building a company. Having been a part of those discussions, the delegates formed new creative ideas and implemented them in the resolutions.
The lobbying session was held at the Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom in Tallinn. The delegates had the opportunity to discuss the resolutions of each committee, with the task of finding clauses that concerned them or problems that were left unsolved. They wrote and submitted amendments to the Presidency of the session with better ideas for solutions, or arguments as to whether or not to strike certain parts of the resolutions.
Plenary Session
The Plenary Session brought together all committees for dynamic and impactful debates. Each committee had the opportunity to present and defend their resolution, showcasing hard work, creativity, and teamwork. The discussions that followed were onces of strong arguments, thoughtful counterpoints, and constructive criticism. Delegates delivered emotional and impactful speeches, contributing to an atmosphere of passion, engagement, and true parliamentary spirit.
Heartfelt thanks to Ms. Svetoslava Savova, teacher in First English Language School and chaperone of the delegation!
