Model European Parliament

The Model European Parliament is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students from all over Europe to experience lawmaking first-hand, becoming an active part of civil society! We are proud to host the programme for Bulgaria and provide easy access and equal opportunities for all!

Throughout the course of the MEP conferences, delegates work in multiple committees (groups), each aiming to find legal and social measures to counteract the most prominent social, political, economic and ecological challenges in the EU and abroad. In the last days of conferences, committees present and defend their ideas and propositions in the Plenary session.

The coordination of the MEP in Bulgaria is a joint initiative of the European Youth Academy Foundation and the First English Language School in Sofia. FELS has been a leading high school (gymnasium) not just in Sofia, but the country as a whole for the better part of its history. Established in 1958, the school has been setting educational standards and ranking in the top of Bulgarian high schools, making it a hospitable environment for the hosting of the MEP programme since 2007. In 2024, the European Youth Academy Foundation, established by FELS graduates, joined the efforts in preserving the quality and extending the reach of the modulation.

National Sessions

The national sessions of the modulation are the first step for students in Bulgaria. They are held annually in different cities across the country and include only participants from Bulgaria. The working language is English. Thanks to their good performance, delegates can receive a recommendation to participate in a regional or international session. No prior preparation is required to participate, only the desire and diligence of the candidates.

Euroregional Sessions

The regional sessions of the MEP include participants from countries in Central and Southeast Europe (about 10). They are held annually in different countries in the region over a period of six days. Participation requires a recommendation from a national session, and the working language is again English.

International sessions

The international sessions are at the top of the MEP hierarchy. They are held annually over eight days in different EU countries, and participants (delegates) come from all EU member states, candidate countries, and guest delegations (around 30 in total). The principle of conducting the conferences is the same as for the other sessions and participation requires a recommendation from a national-level session.
