3rd nMEP Sofia 2023

The third National Session of the MEP in Bulgaria was a revival of the initiative of national sessions after a years-long break. It flipped the new page of the MEP in Bulgaria, as it expanded the reach of the programme in 3 cities and 8 schools in the country. Thanks to the work of the administration and teachers of First English Language School, it was just as memorable and enriching as an international conference.

In the 3-day period (21-23 April 2023) we had the honour of welcoming all 45 delegates who stepped foot for the first time in the shoes of a Member of the European Parliament working on solving the most problematic challenges the EU and Bulgaria faced in 5 committees:

• The Subcommittee on Human Rights – the question of protecting journalists and freedom of speech

• The Committee on Culture and Education – the question of the effects of social media on adolescents

• The Committee on Constitutional Affairs - the question of political disenfranchisement

• The Committee on Employment and Social Affairs - the question of the four-day workweek

• The Committee on Transport and Tourism - the question of sustainable tourism in the post-pandemic era

The Opening Ceremony took place in the National Museum of Military History. The first ice-breaker games and committee meetings followed in First English Language School which continued on the second day as well, when delegates finished their resolutions in their respective committees and moved on to the lobbying procedure.

The third and last day of the session is always the most memorable one. We hosted the Plenary Session in Sofia University where debates on all resolutions were held, including on the proposed amendments from the previous night. The plenary held votes on the amendments and resolutions.
